Escape to the coastal town of Shimoda, Izu: A 10-Day International Workation

📍City: Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture

The coastal town of Shimoda is located at the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula. 🌊 It’s 2.5 hrs. from Tokyo by train, and it’s easy to get around the town by walking or cycling.

This is our pilot program brought to you by Travelr Inc. in partnership with Shimozubu (experts of Shimoda) and LivingAnywhere Commons (provider of the co-living space).

This program is a 10-day workation trip (work & travel) in Shimoda for English speaking professionals who are excited about working remotely and slowly exploring the local lifestyle of Shimoda with a great community.

We take care of all the stressful planning and provide everything you need - co-living and co-working spaces, excursions & activities, and a community of like-minded remote workers and Shimoda locals.

💃🏻 Who is this for?

  • Remote working professionals living in Japan, of any nationality

  • Those comfortable in communicating in English (as the program will be held in English)

😷 Safety Requirements

In order to ensure the safety of participants and the local community, we kindly ask that you cooperate with the following safety measures regarding COVID-19.

  1. Complete two doses of COVID-19 vaccines by Sep 30, 2021.

  2. Take the antigen rapid self-test 1-2 days prior to the start date to ensure you are COVID-19 negative (The test kit will be mailed to your address for no extra charge)

  3. Please send us the proof for 1&2 by email prior to departure.

  4. Please wear a face mask during the program, while you are walking outside, and when you are in shared spaces in the facility. We ask that you cooperate with the Covid-19 Health and Safety Guidelines.

  • Private room in LAC Shimoda throughout your stay (Oct. 15 - 24, 2021)

  • Co-living and co-working spaces @ LAC Shimoda (including NanZ Village)

  • BBQ with remote workers and locals (food & drinks included, vegetarian options available)

  • Workshops & Free Activities:

    Workshops (details TBD), jogging, yoga (organized among the community members)

Note: If you're sharing a room with your friend you may be eligible for some discount

❌ Not included in the price:

  • Transportation to Shimoda:
    i.e. Shinagawa Sta. -> Izukyu Shimoda Sta. costs ¥6,250 (2.5hrs) or ¥3,960 (3.5hrs) by train. Arrival on Oct 15 and departure on Oct 24 is flexible.

  • Optional Activities:

    If you would like to take part in activities such as Dorayaki making class, fishing/himono experience, surfing, onsen etc, costs will be additional.

❗️We will reach out to you with more information once you submit your interest form. Since this is a pilot program with limited capacity, we will select up to 15 participants who best fit our requirements. Submitting this form does not guarantee your attendance, but please submit it as early as possible.

FAQs

How do I get to Shimoda?

You will arrange your own transportation to Shimoda (LivingAnywhere Commons Izu Shimoda) and back home. Arrival and departure time is flexible, but we ask that you arrive on Friday, Oct 15 and Sunday, Oct 24 (special circumstances may be considered).

Do I need to have a “remote job”?

Preference will be given to those who can work remotely during the program on the weekdays, however it can also be a passion project or something to work on, to ensure the best experience for this “workation” program.

What is the schedule like?

We keep the schedule flexible to accommodate the participants’ work schedules as much as possible. The group BBQ included in the program will be held on October 16th (Saturday) evening.

What happens if my program is cancelled due to COVID?

If the program is cancelled due to COVID or if you are unable to participate due to getting a positive COVID-19 result prior to the program, we will refund the full program fee to you (proof of positive COVID-19 is required). For all other reasons for cancellations, the following terms apply.
